Posted March 26th, 2010 by ianMy car is very old. I don't actually 'baby' the car, as people would automatically assume. I'm actually fairly harsh with it as some of my peers will know - I just go with preventive maintenance every now and then on the most important mechanicals - the parts connecting steering, wheels etc. for safety reasons.

Posted February 24th, 2010 by ianI was once asked why Malaysian chinese (also, Singaporean chinese too) have - and I quote him - "Western" English sounding names, as if we're not proud of our own given chinese names. Let's clear the misconception:
A chinese individual can have many different names. Here in Malaysia, there are several:
- Their given Christian name(s), if they are Christian
- Their English version of their name, if they are not Christian
- Their English (phonetic) pronunciation of their Chinese names

Posted February 18th, 2010 by ian...what seemed like a million years ago, believe it or not, I was kid in kindergarten in Krokop, Miri. I went to kindergarten for the usual pre-school activities, learning new words, how to write, how to read, etc.
But now that I think about it, many things that seemed so normal back then would certainly have been outrageous by today's standards.
Koi
Posted January 25th, 2010 by ianWe have a Koi pond (if you can call it a pond) that has some Koi in it.
I took some photo samples for record purposes and to find out what kind of species they are by sending them to a biologist friend in Sepang.
It turns out that the Koi is a local species, not the "original" Japanese species - ie. not highly sought after and therefore, not very valuable either.
