Holy Jumpin' Odo Digits, Batman!

Here's an odometer from the dashboard of an old workhorse van borrowed from a family friend for some moving errands. This one's measured in Kilometers.

This one's for Dougie over a previous post: if misaligned digits on an odometer mean that the odometer was tempered with, then why does this still-first-hand-bought-new van have misaligned digit in the middle number as well?

Or does said (very popular) van manufacturer temper with all their odometers from the factory? Yes I checked with my friend, this van is bought through dealers through the proper channels brand new almost 20 years ago.

A check through Interweb tube googledigook reveals this information:

Look for the obvious. If the car has an analog odometer with numbers that rotate, check if the leftmost digits look misaligned. Another obvious sign of tampering is pencil marks on the numbers or the number face.

Get physical (evidence). Scuff marks around the gauge cluster, scratches around the edges of the lens, missing dash screws, analog numbers that scrape against the instrument face, or a trip odometer that no longer works are all suspect.
