My Self-Healing Car
My car is very old. I don't actually 'baby' the car, as people would automatically assume. I'm actually fairly harsh with it as some of my peers will know - I just go with preventive maintenance every now and then on the most important mechanicals - the parts connecting steering, wheels etc. for safety reasons.
About 5 years ago, after a disastrous what-seemed-to-be-a-straightforward-battery-replacement attempt by an incompetent temp mechanic resulted in shorting the internal electronics, followed by lots of shouting at the mechanic and various apologies from the chief mechanic, the light warning chime and the Cruise Control feature stopped functioning as a result of this short. You see, they all worked fine till then. As usual, anything that breaks is the result of incompetent mechanics' faults, never the car itself.
That is, until 2 days ago. Without doing any repairs to the wiring, electronics and those iffy bits of complicated stuff, the chime started working again when I accidentally left the lights on, and then, while driving along a particular long stretch of road, I hit the Cruise button and - lo & behold! - it works!
All the functions work - accel, decel, set and resume. All worked flawlessly.
So, I must own the World's First Self-Healing Car. It took a while (5 years) to heal, but that still sure as heck surprised me!
Japan makes some pretty kickass cars - that you have my testimonial.

Surely that would've worked - but sadly, the battery had a rather high contact point design, which was not suitable for the car. Upon closing the hood both the battery contacts ( positive & negative ) touched the metal hood, resulting in a short.
