Solar Ambient Garden Lights
Just bought 2 solar lights for testing purposes. They retail for RM99.80 for a two-pack at Parkson.
Not very bright, but work as ambient lighting for dark areas in the gardens with dark areas that need to be lit in the middle of the nights that don't incur large amounts of electric bills..
Here's how it works, a solar panel on top of the light recharges the AA rechargeable batteries within the housing, which, in turn powers the light. When you turn them on, the batteries power the sensor, which turns on the light when it gets dark outside. The batteries should last for the whole night. Or at least that's what they say on the box.
Onwards to the garden!
Here's how it looks like outside.
Is it worth the purchase? Well, it depends. These lights are not meant to replace your lights, they are meant to be easily dispensable, easily modified, portable and maintenance free "just enough lighting" for truly dark areas & corners.
If you have a fairly large garden full of dark areas at night, and too cheap hire an electrician to run underground cables like me, these are the ones to get.
They provide a 1 year limited warranty on these things - but, hmm.. no word on whether any warranties against people pulling them off the ground and stealing them!

But you can get similar knockoffs starting at RM14.90 at One-Stop Stores, but I didn't get them because I'm afraid they might spontaneously combust or something in the middle of the night..
