Toyotas are Reliable.

Going with the current popular trend, it's what the people are saying. Because people are good. You should believe in people.

This QMJ-plate didn't seem to get the memo though.

Depend on what problem. Maybe due to wear & tear item (such as battery) with certain life spent and it's nothing to do with TOYOTAS.

That shows that you don't know anything about cars

Cars stop half way along the road is not due to battery problem, and the battery has nothing to do with it. Big possibility is maybe there's no compression happening due to the cylinder, or timing belt problem, and so on. btw, with the plate QMJ, it is too young to cause a problem...

It cranks. That rules out the battery. The most likely culprit would now be either the timing belt, or the fuel pump. Things that are supposed to last at least 5 years at best.

Also, battery drain problems usually happen at parking lots, or at the home driveway. Not while moving.

The Avanza is a terrible car

The Avanza is a terrible car to drive. It's designed by accountants rather than engineers. It's very apparent, because you can see how they cheapen everything out and lift parts from other models to put in and call it a new model. Toyota has problems with their engine designs recently too. See Link

While I agree that import Japanese cars are a lot better, keep in mind the Japanese market models are very different mechanically & have a life cycle of about 5 years, which can cause spares availability problems in the future. Unless you don't plan to keep the car for long, don't go for exotic low-production "recond" Japan models, even though they look the same as the ones sold here.
